Happy New Year

Welcome to 2017!

'So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, good night...'

I think we are all glad to say goodbye to 2016. I mean it really was one hell of a year - and not in the rock-n-roll sense of the word.

Some of the greatest musicians alive were taken from us (may they rest in eternal peace), the terror attacks of Nice & Syria (to name a few) shook the world, tragedy struck the LGBTIQ+ community with the horrific news of the Orlando bombings & to top it off America had one of the most crazy, unbelievable and saddening election outcomes I think the world has witnessed in a long time - well at least to many of us anyway. Just to name a few.

To put it lightly 2016 was a shocker, so when the countdown for 2017 began I think there was a glimmer of hope in everyone's eyes. Either that, or it was the alcohol.

With the new year in full swing there is the running saying of a 'New Year, New Me' with everyone asking the age old question, "What are your New Year's resolutions?"

To be honest the concept of 'New Year's Resolutions' has never sat well with me. I respect and admire those who are dedicated resolution makers and stick to their yearly promise, but for those who time and time again fail to live up to their resolutions, well that makes me sad.

Am I being pessimistic? Maybe just a little bit.

You only have 365 days in a year (366 if you're lucky), so why try and cram your goals and aspirations into one single year? Living a 'perfect' and idealistic life cannot be rushed.

So if there is anything I can pass onto you this year it's this:

Live your life as if not confined by the constraints of a calendar (which is merely a organisational tool for us mere mortals to understand the confusing time/space continuum), aspire for things that lead to happiness and good health, rather than dwell on a superficial 'perfect' life, and ultimately live each day knowing that your greatest accomplishment will be waking up, kicking butt and proceeding to do it all over again, despite the hard stuff.

Remember that anything has got to be better than 2016 - so keep on kicking!

Happy 2017 :)

  1. I agree with your sentiments, however, not sure 2017 will be much better than 2016. The things that caused the atrocities and sadness of 2016 are still will us. The US now has to live with the consequences of their choice, we still have the hatred that caused numerous bombings and shootings and people we idolise are still human and will die. What really matters through all the happenings of our world is how we respond, and that in the end is all we can control. Have a great year.

    1. You make a very valid point Tracy - the harsh realities of 2016 will unfortunately follow us well into 2017 & onwards. However, like you said, our positive actions and calm response towards the hardships of last year will make all the difference as we welcome in the new year ahead. Thank you - same to you x :)
