February | A Month in Review

February has come and gone and with it, so has summer (yay)! I welcome Autumn with open arms, 'cause despite being born in the hottest part of Summer, the season doesn't exactly agree with my pale complexion and warm-blooded body temperature.

This month I celebrated my 22nd birthday, which I find pretty hard to comprehend. I think once I hit 18, I have arrived at every new birthday with disbelief - I'm sure I'm not the only one. To celebrate the occasion I surrounded myself with my nearest & dearest. No big celebrations, just good food, company and drinks - the small (but memorable) joys. 😊

My family and I went to Ginger Megs in Newcastle for some Asian fusion food & amazing cocktails.

February is also usually smack-bang in the middle of Award Season, which I'd usually only tune in for the red-carpet, but this year my Queen, Lady Gaga, was up for a few nominations. She took away some amazing awards and looked incredible while doing so. Plus, the Oscars gave me this moment, for which I will forever be grateful for. 💕

Yes, Bradley Cooper I will marry you - forget your gorgeous model partner. 😂

I hope everyone had a lovely Valentine's Day too, I spent it re-watching Game of Thrones and eating Hot Flamin' Cheetos. No regrets. 😂

Now, it's time for the things I loved this month...

Bits & Bobs

Hello Fresh

As the main person in charge of cooking in my household, the most annoying part of the process is figuring out what the hell you want to cook. I had briefly signed up to Hello Fresh when I left home and thought it was great, so I thought it was time to introduce my family to it. We haven't had a meal we have hated yet - so this is a HUGE bonus.

You get to choose between three different meal plans; Classic, Family or Vegetarian. Considering I, for the most part, eat a vegetarian diet and my brother is a vegan, we opted for the Vegetarian option. Once you opt into Hello Fresh, every week a box comes to your door with the ingredients and recipe cards packed up and colour coded ready for you to start cooking. It's amazing and saves us a trip to the shops every day.

I cannot recommend this service more - you have flexibility as to whether you want to have it come that week or not and you can reduce your expenditure in-store, it's a win-win. Plus, there are ALWAYS leftovers.

Aldi Chocolate - Choceur (to be exact)

Surprise, surprise - I have another food-related favourite! 😂
I'm not lying when I say to you that this discovery is life-changing. Cadbury and Lindt have always been my go-to Chocolate brands, but this one has now found its way into my heart.

With flavours like 'White-Chocolate Coconut Crisp', 'Strawberries and Cream' and their own version of Bueno's famous Hazelnut Cream filled wafer shells, I'm telling you Aldi know what they're doing. Stock-up, because other people are starting to get in on this secret chocolate heaven too.

I've Been Binge Watching...

Curb Your Enthusiasm | Seasons 1-4
Source: HBO
It comes as no great surprise that I would eventually hop on the Curb Your Enthusiasm train. As a huge fan of Seinfeld, I anticipated that Larry David's humour would be transferred into another one of his creations, and I was right to assume as much.

If you're expecting something like Seinfeld, this show may not be the right fit for you. However, it does have that typical 'questioning' humour that is present in the famous American sit-com we know and love. A lot of the plots & sub-plots are created by Larry David, but the majority of dialogue is improvised, which makes you appreciate this show even more.
A lot of guest-stars make appearances on the show, as this show is basically a mockumentary of Larry David's life - which is sometimes a little kooky and messy. Watch it & you'll know what I mean.

Where to Watch: Foxtel

Sex Education
Source: ProjectNerd
If you haven't seen this show yet, seriously - go watch it now (just maybe not with your parents)!
I cannot recommend it enough.

Sex Education is a show all about tackling the many issues young adults have to go through. From hormonal changes, relationships, SEX (obviously), mental health concerns, sexuality, etc - this show does an incredible job at looking at each of these in a healthy and informative way. It's also pretty damn hilarious and honest.

There are some really touching moments in this series, as well as some awkward ones, but a show like this will do wonders for this generation. I actually was talking to a friend about this show and was saying how amazing it would've been if when we were in high school a show like this was around.

A lot of schools have a long way to go when talking about sex education and mental health support. I'm hoping shows like this can inform young adults as well as teach those who are enforcing programs in schools.

Informative, hilarious & heart-warming - it's a big thumbs up from me.

Where to Watch - Netflix (also, there will be a S2!)

I've Been Listening To...

There were quite a few good tunes that came out in February, including (but not limited to) a come-back anthem from sk8tr girl, Avril Lavigne. As soon as I heard it I was transported back to the days of Jay Jays ripped jeans and studded belts and side-fringes - oh man, we've all come so far.

I became a tad obsessed with H.E.R, in particular, as her voice sounds as smooth as butter and as sweet as honey. Her self-titled compilation album even won 'Best R&B Album' at this years Grammy's - so yeah, this chick is certified fire 🔥

Go check out all my other faves below...

What were some of your favourites in February? x
