Yes, it's Christmas Eve - but I thought I'd get in early! I'm sure you can use your imagination...
Wherever you are in the world today and whatever it is you choose to do, I hope that it brings you much joy and happiness. Despite being a huge Christmas lover myself, I understand that not everyone else feels as jovial about Christmas as I do and/or simply do not celebrate it (for a number of reasons). So all I can hope for is that everyone is able to spend this time with those they hold near and dear and find comfort in that company.
With all the chaos and unfortunate events that we see occurring around us, I hope that this Christmas can provide some solace in what can seem like a very troubling time. I think we all too often fall into the commercial trap that surrounds Christmas, which can be fun, but can distract us from appreciating the heart that is the Christmas season.
The heart does not lie in the tally of Christmas gifts you receive, how well adorned your house is in Christmas decorations, the amount of money one can spend on you or how much food you can shove into your mouth before the days end.
The heart of Christmas lies in the emotion you see when you give someone that gift - the joy that spreads across a loved ones face. It's the small fits of laughter that occur around the table as you hear those god awful Christmas cracker jokes and wear paper crowns that will soon tear and fall to the floor. The heart of Christmas lies in sharing those tender moments with the ones you love, even if it is only for a short while, as many of you then have to return to the gruel of everyday work/life. So my Christmas wish this year is that each and everyone of you are able to experience the true heart of Christmas and cherish those moments, for they are all too infrequent.
Eat till your pants pop, drink till you're well and truly merry and hold your loved ones near - let not my definition of Christmas define yours, but find your own definition, your own comfort and joy and let it be a moment you can cherish forever.
