I am beginning to struggle with comprehending how quick months are flying by, which acts as a constant reminder of how I'm getting older and sounding more and more like my parents each day. Eek!
In saying this, August has been quite a cold, chaotic and... let's just say, a month I'll be happy to wave goodbye. However, throughout the month there have been some more uplifting moments and elements which I thought I'd share with you. If you care to hear them, read ahead. If not, you know where the 'door' is.
Bits & Bobs
This month I finally decided that, despite my personal love of winter, my skin needed some of the hydration and Vitamin C that our summer offers. A bit of a splurge, as it was, I invested in the Origins Organics GinZing Energy-Boosting Gel Moisturiser, which offers a very cooling, refreshing and hydrating layer to your skin without the oiliness of a lot of moisturisers on the market.
Not to mention, it smells like freshly peeled oranges, which is a nice break from some of the potent botanical and chemical scents that are often found with some moisturisers.

*CAUTION: SPOILERS ARE COMING*

In fact I think this series is one of my favourites yet. The story line never dwindled and always kept me on my toes. I mean, come on, how could you not have enjoyed 'The Spoils of War' episode?
It's got me saying 'Dracrys!' to my dog in hope he will somehow magically channel the power of a dragon.
!!!! SPOILERS COMING!!!!
This season also confirmed a lot of fan theories, the biggest being R+L=J, along with a mass of other mind blowing matters, such as saying goodbye to a few characters (inevitably), welcoming back Gendry with his big hammer, some freaking insane battle scenes, intense conversations and seeing Jon Snow finally get it on with his Aunt (unknowingly). Could only happen in Game of Thrones. See you all in 2019 for GOT Season 8 :(

Bates Motel | Season 1
Source: Universo Experience |
We all know of Hitchcock's famous movie Psycho (1960), with that iconic shower scene. Well... Bates Motel's premise is to act as the prologue to Hitchcock's original piece. This story, however, is set in a 21st century universe where texting and the internet is part of the everyday norm. You could say it's all a little bit twisted.
Is it weird? Yes. Is it addictive? Unfortunately.
On multiple accounts I've questions why I'm watching this show, as it explores some very disturbing relationships, especially the one between mother/son duo; Norman Bates & Norma Bates and challenges the very notions of what American 'suburbia' should be like.
However, it is interesting to put together the puzzle that led to the Norman Bates character presented in Psycho, who is a very disturbed and mentally challenged character. Hence the film title.
It's fair to say I would be steering clear of any 'Bates Motels' 😬

Flipping through ...
I cannot begin to say how much I love this book. However, I will start off by saying how much respect and adoration I have for the woman behind it all, Sheryl Sandberg.
To work as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of one of the biggest tech-companies in the world, Facebook, is a big step in itself. To be a woman, a mother, wife and COO is another.
Sandberg is a woman, like many before her, who has gone through the doubts and pressures of living to societies 'expectations' of what it means to be the 'perfect' mother, daughter, wife, woman. This book and her overall mission is to encourage others, especially women, to break through the 'glass ceiling' that has separated women and men for centuries in the workforce.
Throughout this book you will find her recall the hardships faced when breaking through the ceiling, whilst also highlighting some insightful lessons she has learnt along the way as well as some of the lessons she continues to learn from others.
Sanberg now has a few books to her name, all of which aim to encourage women to 'lean in' and men to do recognise this issue and encourage women on this journey. I'm sure these books are definitely going to make a worthy addition to my bookshelf soon.
Listening to...
Unfortunately I didn't get around to discovering a whole heap of new stuff in August, as I was enjoying listening to Lady GaGa's ArtPop on vinyl. However, I did discover these little gems. So, enjoy!PS: Camila Cabello is doing way better on her own. Sorry - too soon?
